Athlete Information

dmarlow@bfasta.net

Physicals

It is the policy of BFA to require a physical examination every two years for students engaged in interscholastic athletics.  These physicals are at the expense of each individual.  The Athletic Director has an available recommended form or an appropriate substituted doctor's form/proof is acceptable.

Insurance

All candidates are required to furnish proof of accident/health insurance before participating in any tryouts, practice sessions, or athletic contests.  BFA does not purchase insurance for its athletes.  Each year the school district does make available a school-time insurance program at a nominal fee to all students enrolled at BFA.

Form/Contract

The activity permission form and participation contract must be completed and signed by the candidate and his/her parents or guardians prior to eligibility for practice and/or play.  Separate forms must be completed for each activity in which the athlete is a candidate.

Tryouts

In some activities it may be necessary to reduce the number of participants to a manageable size, particularly when considering safety, fiscal resources, equipment, facilities, and coaching personnel.
It will be the responsibility of the coach/advisor to make decisions concerning what the final number of participants in an  activity will be.  The decisions reached will be consistent with goals and objectives of the specific program.

Harassment/Initiation Program

Harassment is any unwelcome conduct directed at a student's disability, gender, marital or parental status, national origin, race, religion, grade, or sexual orientation with the purpose or effect of interfering with an individual's performance or creating an intimidating, hostile or offensive educational environment.
It is BFA's belief that harassment disrupts this educational environment, infringes upon student rights and therefore is strictly prohibited.
Any student found to have engaged in such harassment will be in violation of this expectation and shall be subject to appropriate discipline, up to and including dismissal or expulsion if warranted.
Any student who believes he or she has been subjected to harassment is entitled to an internal grievance procedure and may pursue remedies provided by Federal and State law.

Hazing

BFA has zero tolerance for hazing and the consequences can be severe.  Participation in any activity which recklessly endangers the physical or mental health of a person, or which violates the dignity of another person may lead to individual disciplinary action, team disciplinary action, and/or termination from the team.
