Events

Sprinting

  • 100 meter- one straight away of the track
  • 200 meter-one straight away and turn of the track
  • 400 meter- one lap around the track
  • 4x100 meter relay- Four people per team, each person runs 100 meters
  • 4x400 meter relay-Four people per team, each person runs 400 meters

Long Distance

  • 800 meter- Two laps around the track
  • 1500 meter-Three and 3/4 laps around the track
  • 3000 meter- Seven and 1/2 laps around the track
  • 4x800 meter relay- Four people per team, each person runs 800 meters

Throwing

  • Shot Put- Athletes throw a heavy metal ball as far as they can into a pit of sand
  • Javelin- Athletes throw a spear-like pole as far as they can
  • Discus-Athletes throw a flat disc as far as they can

Jumping

  • Pole Vault- Athletes run with a pole and launch themselves over a bar, the goal being to jump over the bar while it is as high as possible and make it over without yourself or your pole knocking it down
  • High Jump- Athletes run and jump over a bar onto a mat, the goal being to jump over the bar while its as high as possible without knocking it down
  • Long Jump-Athletes run and jump into a pit of sand, their distance is measured from the line to where the closest mark of landing is
  • Triple Jump- Athletes run and, like the long jump, jump into a pit of sand. Unlike the long jump the athletes hop, skip and then jump into the sand. The distance they achieve is measured to where the closest part of their jump landing is

Hurdles

  • 100 meter hurdles- Athletes run one straight away of the track and jump over the hurdles in their path
  • 300 meter hurdles- Athletes run 3/4 of the track and jump over the hurdles in their path
