Alpine Skiing
Mission Statement
Over the past 5 years BFA has developed an Alpine Ski Team. This ski team is made up of hard working individuals who strive to be the best they can be. Since BFA does not have it's own ski resort we are forced to practice up at Smugglers Notch, and also at Hard'ack when the weather permits.
Alpine Skiing has two main events, these events are known as Slalom and Giant Slalom. Slalom is when a skier goes through gates that are very close together and "cross blocks" them in order to get them out of their way. Giant Slalom consists of gates further apart from the other and also deals with speed. Giant Slalom is a lot faster than Slalom, and can also be more dangerous.
Every year in Skiing the Northern Vermont ski teams compete against one another at a race called Districts, this race will decide who will move on to States. The top 10 girls from G.S, and Slalom will go on to States but also the top 7 out of 14 teams will move on to states too. The 2005-2006 Alpine Ski Team, boys and girls squad both made it to states, this is the first year any of our teams has made it to a State meet besides individuals. Every year our goal in skiing is to Make it to states either as an individual or as a team.
