These are ongoing throughout the entire year for any of my classes.  Each student may do one per semester, but not the same two in a year.

 

 

Extra Credit Opportunities
For Mrs. Parent’s Mathematics Classes

You are now the Teacher

  • You have to videotape yourself teaching an adult over the age of 18 in your family a math lesson for the trimester.  (If you do not have a recorder, you may borrow from the school.)
  • You will need to plan (and type out) a lesson plan that will be turned in to the teacher for part of the project.
  • Part of the video will be shown to the class, so make sure you are proud of it.
  • This needs to be completed AND TURNED IN PRIOR to one week before finals.

 

Math Interview

  • You need to come up with a list of interview questions to show how math relates to this person’s profession.  (This will be turned in along with the answers.)
  • You will have to have the interviewee sign off that they did the interview and that it is alright with them to have their answers shared with the class.
  • You will have to TYPE up the results into a 2 full page (minimum) paper using 12 point font, double spaced.
  • This needs to be completed AND TURNED IN PRIOR to one week before finals.


Research a Mathematician

  • You will have to research a mathematician and write a paper about him or her, as well as present information to the class.
  • Paper :       
    • 2 full pages minimum, double spaced, 12 point font
    • Separate paper for bibliography using proper format.
    • Bibliography: 
      • must use 1 book/magazine minimum
      • must use 1 website minimum
      • may not use more then 2 websites
  • This needs to be completed AND TURNED IN PRIOR to one week before finals.
     

Make a Math Story

  • Must have a plot and at least two characters.

  • Math concepts must be apparent, appropriate, and be content specific.

  • Must be at least six pages long.

  • Must be colored, easy to read, and pleasing to the eye.

  • This needs to be completed AND TURNED IN PRIOR to one week before finals.


Make a Math Comic Strip

  • Must have a plot and at least two characters.

  • Math concepts must be apparent, appropriate, and be content specific.

  • Must be at least nine comic blocks long.

  • Must be colored, easy to read, and pleasing to the eye.

  • This needs to be completed AND TURNED IN PRIOR to one week before finals.
