Accelerated Algebra I

 

Course Description:

This course is an in-depth look at elementary Algebra. Topics include

 

  • Functions

  • The Language and Tools of Algebra

  • Equations and Formulas

  • Inequalities

  • Linear Functions

  • Systems of Equations and Inequalities

  • Exponents and Polynomials

  • Factoring Polynomials

  • Quadratic Functions and Equations

  • Data Analysis and Probability

 

Expectations

The student will –

 

1. Learn to value mathematics.

2. Become confident in his/her own abilities.

3. Become mathematical problem solvers.

4. Learn to communicate mathematically.

5. Learn the fundamentals of the graphing calculator.

6. Be prepared for every class with materials and assignments.

7. Participate actively in class.

8. Make good use of class time.

9. Get extra help when needed.

10. Hand in assignments on time. Late assignments will not be accepted!!

 

Materials:

 

Text: Holt Algebra 1 by Berger, Chard, Hall, Kennedy, Leinwand, Renfro, Seymour, and Waits.

 

 

Three-Ring Binder (2 inch) and dividers for daily assignments.

The following sections must be included in your binder:

1. Notes

2. Practice Problems

Graphing Calculator.

It is recommended that students have a graphing calculator.

 

Make-Up Work:

A student should contact Ms. Gray if he/she misses or plans to miss class. The policy in the Student Handbook will be followed. It is the student’s responsibility to inquire about and complete any missing work.

 

Teacher Availability

If extra help is needed, please plan to see Ms. Gray during Enrichment period. Otherwise, contact Ms. Gray to make an appointment to see her immediately after school.

Quizzes will be announced and unannounced.

 

Tests

Tests will be given at the end of each chapter. All tests will be announced. There will always be a review before each test.

 

Projects/Problem Write-Ups
