Description: Chemistry 438-B is the second semester of a lab-based course designed for the highly motivated student. The emphasis in this course is on learning chemical principles such as the properties of matter, the gas laws, phase changes, acids and bases, kinetics, thermodynamics, chemical equilibrium, nuclear chemistry, and organic chemistry. Laboratory work is designed to illustrate these principles and aid in the development of problem solving skills and lab skills.
Prerequisites: Chemistry 438-A and concurrent enrollment in (or completion of) Algebra 337, or permission of instructor.
Credit: 1/2
Teacher Expectations: Students are expected to participate in class activities and labs, to work independently and in groups, and to act responsibly in class.
Texts & Materials: Modern Chemistry (Holt, Rinehart, and Winston)
Student material needed: 1 three ring binder, 1 lab notebook, and 1 graphing calculator.
Make-up Work: Work missed during an excused absence must be made-up within two school days. Work missed during an unexcused absence may not be made-up and will be given a zero.

Teacher availability for help: before and after school.
Other: Every attempt should be made to hand in all assignments on time. Work handed in late or work not made up within two school days after an excused absence will receive a 1point deduction per day late on the Homework- Participation Grade up to a total of 3 points per assignment. Extra credit projects or papers must be approved in advance. Extra credit is limited to 3% of the final grade.
