  • How did the colonists justify their independence from Great Britain?
  • What political, economic, and social effects resulted from the American Revolution?
  • Why did the Articles of Confederation fail to create a workable central (federal) government?
  • How did the Founders balance competing interests in a way that calmed the fears of opponents of a strong central government?
  • How did early leaders shape the foundations of American foreign policy?
  • What caused the development of political parties during the Washington administration?
  • How did decisions of the Marshall court strengthen the Supreme Court and the national government?
